New Challenges ... New Ideas

The 2005 NMC New England Regional Conference
Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut
October 5-7, 2005

About the Conference

NMC Regional Conferences are one-of-a-kind events, each very much a reflection of the host institution. In fall 2005, the NMC comes to New England for a very special regional event to be held on the campus of Yale University, one of the NMC’s founding members and hosted by the Center for Media Initiatives.

Befitting the rich traditions of Yale and its sister institutions across New England, the conference will bring together scholars and technologists from across the region to explore new ideas, discuss the issues which surround them, and share stories of successful efforts. We will be arriving near the peak of the fall season, when the Yale Campus will be aflame in autumn colors.

Conference Theme

The theme of the conference is “New Challenges … New Ideas,” and two challenges in particular will provide the spark that will be at the core of the program.

The first is how to meet the expectations of technology-savvy digital natives coming to campus looking for visually rich learning experiences and collaborative activities that build on their years of familiarity with massively multi-player role-playing games. The "Educational Gaming" track will provide a forum to explore this challenge.

The second is to understand and meet the rapidly expanding needs of scholars for real-time knowledge sharing and dissemination tools, collaboration support, and high-quality visuals, simulations, and graphics. A track entitled "Supporting Research" will feature sessions related to this challenge.

As has been the long-standing tradition of the NMC, the program will also include a third track devoted to best practices and information sharing, and designed to foster connections, collaboration, and dialog among colleges and universities throughout the region.
