From the multimedia novice to
the professional this special three-day institute is a great
introduction to working with digital imaging and digital video
softwares. The institute includes hands-on instruction to
Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere and script/storyboard development.
Center for Digital Storytelling Staff will provide each attendee
with specific assistance on their projects, including design,
scripting, and other issues regarding the use of the digital
storytelling.
Attendees will complete a 3-5 minute piece which will be
output to CD ROM, DVD and/or VHS after the completion of the
institute. Attendees will also receive a copy of both Adobe
Photoshop Elements 3.0 and Adobe Premiere Elements 1.0 after
attending this session.

Institute Day 1 |
On Day One, digital storytelling will be introduced
with samples of prior students work and analyzing strengths
and weaknesses of various pieces. Trainers will discuss with
attendees their own project plans, preparation of material
including scripting, rough source material selection and storyboarding.
There will also be an overview to Premiere software and procedure
for preparing still images in Photoshop. Each attendee will
be scheduled for input of source material to individual workstations,
scanning and sizing images in Photoshop, capturing soundtrack
audio and video, and recording voiceovers. |

Institute Day 2 |
Day Two will be a training a practice day where
attendees will learn to:
• Review and re-write scripts
• Finish recording voice-overs
• Begin rough edit in Premiere |

Institute Day 3 |
On Day Three, attendees will work on finalizing
their projects by:
• Continuing to edit in Premiere
• Complete second edit where attendees will explore special effects
for their work in Premiere including image pan, motion,
superimpostions, transparency and titles.
• Final edit and review where attendees will complete editing and
make a snapshot of the final version of their digital story for session
presentation during the NMC Summer Conference. |

Joe Lambert is the founder of the Center
for Digital Storytelling and author of Digital Storytelling: Capturing Lives
and Creating Community. Lambert and CDS have helped over 9000 people
complete digital stories in 16 countries and 47 US States. Their methods
and approach are being used in innumerable educational, community and
professional settings.
Daniel Weinshenker directs the Denver Office of Center for
Digital Storytelling. An accomplished artist, writer, designer
and educator, with an MFA in Creative Writing from the University
of Colorado at Boulder. |
