Creating Games for Education: A Three-Day Institute |
|
In the four decades that have elapsed since Ralph Baer built the
first prototype of Pong, video games have gone from depicting a
dot bouncing between two lines to providing rich and immersive
worlds, capable of sustaining complex narratives. As outlined in
the 2006 Horizon Report, educational gaming shows great promise
to transform the educational landscape in the coming years. This
workshop is designed to provide programmers and nonprogrammers
alike with a chance to get their hands dirty creating video games
for education. The methodology employed is based upon agile development
principles, and is designed to be both scalable and sustainable,
so that the knowledge gained can be put to use immediately in the
institution of origin.

Five Minutes of Fame Center of Excellence
Awards |
|
This year the Five Minutes of Fame and the Center of Excellence
Awards sessions will be held within the same plenary session,
on Friday, June 8, 2006. The session began by celebrating
the achievements of NMC member campuses in the fast-paced
Five Minutes of Fame. In this trademark NMC event, presenters
have only five minutes to tell their remarkable stories -- and
if they run out of time -- a gong will signal that their
"Five Minutes of Fame" are up! This unusual session is fast,
fun, and a great overview of some fantastic work taking
place on a dozen or so campuses! Then the session continued
by recognizing the extraordinary contributions of NMC member
instructions with the Center of Excellence Awards. |
