IUPUI Race Car Showing
Thursday, June 7 |
A racecar designed by IUPUI students was on
show for attendees to see on Thursday. IUPUI has joined the
forefront of American universities training graduates for
the Motorsports Industry. IUPUI's Motorsports
Technology Certificate is offered by the School of Engineering
and Technology where students have the opportunity to take
several motorsports specific classes and work on real world
projects relating to motor racing. The best example
of this is the IUPUI student project racecar, which has been
completely designed and built by students. Although
the car began life as a 1969 MGB-GT, it has been completely
overhauled and rebuilt and is ready to race. It debuted
last fall with a win in Sports Car Club of America autocross
competition and is expected to move into a full racing schedule
this year. The car is called Catherine or “Cat” because
of a paint job that incorporates the IUPUI spirit mark and
other Jaguar graphics.

Reception at the
Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art
Thursday, June 7, 6:30 – 9:30 pm |
The Thursday night reception
was held at the Eiteljorg
Museum of American Indians and Western Art.
The Eiteljorg Museum is the only museum of its kind in the
Midwest, and one of only two museums east of the Mississippi
that showcase both Native American and Western art, culture
and history. The museum contains one of the best Native
American and Western art collections in the world, including
traditional and contemporary work by artists such as T.C.
Cannon, N. C. Wyeth, Andy Warhol, Georgia O'Keeffe,
Allan Houser, Frederic Remington, Charles Russell and Kay
WalkingStick.
The museum's Mihtohseenionki (The People's Place) gallery
explores Indiana's indigenous peoples—the Delaware,
Miami and Potawatomi Indians—through
preserved rare objects, historical photos, interactive displays and audiovisual
technology. Other galleries feature Native American art and artifacts from coast
to coast, including pottery, basketry, woodcarvings, beadwork and apparel. The
museum's alliance partnership with the Smithsonian National Museum of the
American Indian (NMAI) gives it invaluable access to the NMAI's traveling
exhibitions and collections. |
