Carrie Umarov: Howard, You spoke about human communication arising out of necessity and survival. But some of the research that I have done (text based only) is that children learn through social and communicative interaction with other people. One author has talked about the reference triangle between child, adult and outside world/entity - referred to this as joint attentional interaction. As to evolution of communication, one author Others suggests that foraging behaviours lead to the development of taxonomies to classify plants/animals and aid in hunting/gathering. So I guess my question is it a drive to communicate and connect or do you think that necessity drove evolution of human communication? Or a combination of necessity and 'drive' to communicate (communication simply as byproduct of learning process)?

Carrie Umarov: No, my background is the sciences and anthropology, so I am familiar with primate and human evolution and am familiar with some writers on embodied mind or intelligence. My understanding is based on anthropology (human evolution), learning theory, and some papers on robotics.
