The Interactive University Project (IU) was created through the collaboration
of UC Berkeley academic departments, research units, and museums,
and Bay Area K-12 schools and community organizations to explore how
University/K-12 partnerships can best use the Internet to support
schools and families. IU went through many phases starting from providing
support of a dozen Internet Learning Community Projects to create
a large scale Internet mediated learning ecosystem to reach the goal
of making UC Berkeley's resources available on the Internet for K-12
teachers and students.
IU supports K-12 teachers to help students improve by providing
accessible educational materials online. It also provides an innovative
approach to improve teaching and learning by enabling these materials
to a large scale of K-12 teachers and learners. IU received awards
including the 2001 Educause
Award for Exemplary Practices in Information Technology Solutions,
and the 2001 University/Community
Partners Recognition award.
