The mission of MIT's Academic
Media Production Services unit (AMPS) is to provide professional,
high quality, cost-effective services in support of educational
technology initiatives sponsored by the MIT community.
With access to a talented staff of web and graphic designers, educators,
pedagogical consultants, videographers, video editors, streaming
media specialists, project managers, programmers, teleconferencing
specialists and support personnel, AMPS is involved in a number
of very high-profile projects. AMPS expertise covers the full range
of multimedia, asynchronous and synchronous technologies, and distance
learning capabilities.
Services to the MIT community include: Project management (including
scope planning and cost analysis); Pedagogical consulting and outreach;
Design (graphic, instructional, and classroom facilities); Production
(videography, coding/programming, website building, media coordination,
file compression, teleconferencing and videoconferencing, video
editing, audio processing, webcasting, CD-ROM and DVD authoring
and duplication); Testing (Quality Assurance, Usability, Accessibility);
Support planning; Deployment; and Educational assessment (formative
and summative).
Among the projects AMPS is working on are the Open Knowledge Initiative
(OKI); MIT's OpenCourseWare initiative (OCW); and Stellar, a web-based
