The Virtual Scope The University of Delaware Biology Department uses an online simulation of a compound microscope to help prepare students and lab assistants for their hands-on microscopy labs. In addition to a (nearly) fully functional working scope, the simulation includes narrated instructions, some challenging scenarios, and four prepared slides to view. The virtual scope not only allows users to prepare for hands-on interaction with a microscope in a lab, but it also tests their skills and helps them to practice what they may have learned in a classroom environment. There is also a seven minute instructional video available for users who are not familiar with using the microscope to review before using a microscope or the simulation.
