The Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College in
New York is offering $5000 to the high school or college student
who shoots the best 30 second movie entirely with a cell phone
or smart phone. (Video editing can take place on a computer
with any program.) The contest rules say that the video may
fit in any genre, including documentary, action, comedy, drama,
or experimental, and must include audio, including music, dialogue,
and/or voiceover. The contest entry period ends on January
10, 2006, and the grand prize winner will be chosen by January
30, 2006.
With the contest, known as Cellflix, Ithaca College is publicizing the
growing trend toward creative content and mobile delivery on ever smaller
devices. According to an article in Technology Review,
the contest originator, Dean Dianne Lynch, had the idea while attending
a conference presentation on the future of mobile delivery of content. She's
interested in having students start to think smaller. Writing in
the school's blog, Dean Lynch reports that Cellflix has been mentioned
in over 276 media sources.
