At Radford University in Radford, Virginia, the Technology in
Learning Center in conjunction with Dr. Erin Webster-Garrett of the University's
English Department is producing digital editions of selected literary
works. These e-texts include accurate copies of the published pieces
as well as annotated transcriptions featuring comments from students,
faculty, and other scholars. The current beta model focuses on
texts related to the Perkin Warbeck conspiracy, including Mary
Shelley's historical novel, The Fortunes of Perkin Warbeck,
A Romance. The project will use SGML language to encode transcriptions
of the books.
For each book, students and readers will have the opportunity to annotate
or provide contextual information, such as genealogies, timelines, and
links to other sources. For example, student-edited chapters of Perkin
Warbeck are already online. Works are selected by the project
Advisory Board through a collaborative process.
