ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, LEARNING SOLUTIONS

Degree and specialization: 
Bachelor's degree required. An advanced degree is preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
-Five years experience in use of academic technologies to address needs in instruction, research, libraries or museums, preferably at an institution of higher education with three years of experience managing a group or department of professional staff, including budget development and management, and successful implementation of long and short term planning.
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams to accomplish a goal.
-Demonstrated leadership including working with diverse groups of people in fostering a multi-cultural environment.
-Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with a high degree of energy, initiative and organizational ability.
-Entrepreneurial experience is a plus.

Principal duties:
The mission of the Learning Solutions group in the Academic Technology (AT) department of the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is to provide and support deans, faculty, and staff with learning objects and custom applications for instruction and research. Service offerings include instructional design, learning materials development, instructional and research application development, and evaluation services.

The Assistant Director duties include but are not limited to:

-Manages and directs the DoIT Learning Solutions group. Initiates, develops and establishes policies and long and short term goals and objectives. Conducts short and long term planning. Identifies and acquires needed resources, including staff. Manages staff including setting objectives, recruiting, training, monitoring activities and conducting performance evaluations for approximately 14 professional staff and several students. 45%

-Develops and markets the services of the Learning Solutions group, including instructional design, learning materials development, instructional and research application development, evaluation services and, where applicable, implementation coordination, vendor liaison, and project management. Establishes partnerships with campus units and serves as a liaison with the partners on coordinated programming, planning and services. 25%

-Determines the group¿s annual operating plan and budget, currently $1.4M. Actively monitors revenue and expenses, and takes actions to maintain solvency. Designs and evaluates the group¿s business processes in order to promote increased productivity, quality, and customer service. 15%

-Advises the Department Director and participates in the AT Management Team on priorities, opportunities and customer service issues. Contributes to developing and implementing departmental strategic plans, policies, procedures, and guidelines. As a member of the DoIT Management Team, proposes policies and procedures related to the overall direction and mission of the Division. Aligns group and departmental plans with the goals of DoIT, the campus, and UW System. 10%

-Provides leadership to support and encourage customer-focused orientation and quality values. Promotes diversity in the workplace. 5%
