The State of Digital Storytelling
Nearly 80 countries worldwide have been introduced to Digital Storytelling. The massive growth in the last few years has demonstrated the strength of this distinct new genre of communication, originating from a group of California practitioners associated with the Center for Digital Storytelling. At the same time, countless practitioners have expanded and adapted the core philosophy and methods to explore many new and provocative areas of application, from using stories in mobile communication, to integrating digital stories into curriculum, awareness campaigns, and public policy advocacy.

Into the Breach
Posted September 22nd, 2008 by NMC
This paper, produced as part of the NMC's Digital Education Project for Texas Art Museums, documents the sad state in which arts education finds itself; shines a light of hope on that picture; and makes recommendations that arts-focused institutions and their donor communities can use to help make a difference in keeping a love for the arts alive across the state.

That partnership, which falls under the umbrella of the NMC's Digital Media and Learning Initiative, has help us to continue to support the Pachyderm Project, to strengthen our longstanding collaborations with the Digital Storytelling Institute, Hippasus, and other organizations, and to better understand the pedagogy and power of story when coupled with digital media.

Not Since the Great Depression: The Post Katrina Documentary Impulse and New Media
Posted December 17th, 2007 by NMC
Assembling content for an online database project regarding hurricanes Katrina and Rita provides daily opportunities to assess personal and community losses throughout the Gulf Coast. It also puts one into contact with the vast array of documentation efforts flourishing along the coast, particularly New Orleans, which serves as this catastrophe’s “Ground Zero.” Each individual’s story constitutes one invaluable piece in the immense debris field stretching from Texas to Alabama. New Media drives the documentation of the tragedies and ongoing recoveries; similarly, New Media must assist in making these invaluable materials accessible to both web surfers and scholars.
