NMC Commission on Accreditation Inaugural Convocation

Apr 19 2010 - Apr 22 2010

Join the NMC for the inaugural convocation of the NMC Commission on Accreditation for the official launch of a major new initiative to establish a formal body to oversee and certify the accreditation of new media and new media arts programs.

NMC Announces Plans to Create Accrediting Commission for New Media Programs

Since its creation in 1993, the New Media Consortium (NMC) has been a recognized leader in the fields of new media and new media arts, with a practitioner-focused approach to the programs and activities it sponsored.

Over the past few months, we have been approached by several of our members encouraging us to consider adding programmatic accreditation for new media and new media arts programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels.  We were further encouraged by a recent study by Edgar Huang of IUPUI that identified more than 170 academic programs in these disciplines in the US alone (see http://www.iupui.edu/~j21099/nmschools.html).

Currently there is no umbrella organization or mechanism to help these programs assess their quality.  After considerable research and study, we have decided to take on that role as a major new thrust of the NMC.
