Selected Blog Software and Weblog Tools

There are gigs of tools for blogging and they are evolving fast. Many blogging tools have also been developed to improve the blogging experience, with commonly used ones providing blogrolls (e.g., blogrolling.com) and feedback comment systems (e.g., YACCS).

Blogger (free and Pro) (http://www.blogspot.com)
A popular tool that is very easy to set up and get started - “it's great for us peasants as it's easy to learn and hosting makes it a cinch.” Ability to assign categories to posts is critical, searching is key, flexible templates and archiving options, etc. though the latest MacWorld article says that users tend to “migrate from it, not to it.”

MovableType (MT) (http://www.movabletype.org/)
MT, which has a free and paid version, is versatile, feature rich, and widely used by many blogs. MT is very versatile and open to added functionality, can be customized as far as your knowledge of CSS will take you.

Radio (http://radio.userland.com/)
Userland first developed RSS. It is one of the more feature rich services though their Radio posting tool is free.

Blosxom (http://www.blosxom.com/)
This tool is distinguished by its simplicity.
