Imprimatur Project
European Union
The Imprimatur project was co-ordinated by the Authors' Licensing
and Collecting Society (ALCS), an organization in Britain which
represents the interests of authors. In English law, the term Author
embraces a wide variety of creative disciplines. The project was
launched by The European Commission DG III under the ESPRIT program
and is now complete.
The Imprimatur acronym spells out: Intellectual Multimedia Property
RIghts Model And Terminology for Universal Reference. This is because
the project aimed to finish its life with a prototype (the rights
model) that would work across all platforms together with internationally
agreed standards defining its use (universal terms).
