Since 1994, Steve Thompson's expertise has been study and analysis of Internet technologies, more recently as existential phenomena. Dr. Thompson's engineering concentration in the sciences for technologies that affect societies (STS) is the primary lens through which he conducts his new media research, while leveraging ethics, philosophies and policies for new AI at the cybernetic, cybersemiotic and cyberwarfare levels, as informed by digital media, journalism and terrorism studies.
New Media Responsibilities
I am formally degreed in communication with a BA in Media Studies and in new media with a BA in Integrative Arts and a concentration in New Media from Penn State, and MS in Media Arts and Science from the Department of New Media in the School of Informatics at Indiana University. I have my own new media firm since the mid-90's and did pioneering research in Internet addiction in 1995, published in the Penn State McNair Journal i n 1996. I am a veteran professional newsman of 10 years so I completely understand the the theoretical and practical forces within the traditional media industry alongside its convergence with digital media. My last professional position outside my own new media design and development studio was as Creative Project Manager on projects for HP, Lucent, Apple, and other high profile clients at an Internet start-up in California.
